Absolute Multi-Turn Optical Encoders

Absolute encoders provide a unique binary word or "whole word" output for each position. Multi-turn encoders are ideal for applications where a device moves at a slow rate with multiple rotations or is inactive for long periods of time.

Due to signal complexity, data rates, and cabling requirements, absolute encoders tend to fit into more specialized applications where a once-per-revolution reference isn’t practical. Their advantage over incremental encoders is on power-up, where absolute encoders instantly provide their absolute position.
